A true example that demonstrates the meaning of talent and professionalism is the ascending artistic career of the young singer and actor Jencarlos Canela, who with only 23 years of age he has had over 110 successful concerts in countries like Canada, Dominican Republic, Panama, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, United States, and the French Islands like Martinique, Guyana, Guadeloupe, Nueva Caledonia, among others.
Jencarlos began his professional music career at age 12 as the lead singer of the group “Boom Boom Pop” and is a 2006 honors graduate of The New World School of the Arts where singing and music performance were his main focus.
Jencarlos music project is a unique partnership between Jencarlos’ record label, BULLSEYE MUSIC and Telemundo in the USA, and Televisa in Mexico.
Jencarlos’ debut album BUSCAME with Bullseye Music entered the Latin album charts at #1 and was certified Gold within weeks of its release. This was a remarkable achievement as it was the first time in the history of the charts that the debut album of a new artist on an independent label entered at #1. The first single “Amor Quedate” quickly climbed the singles chart and the video entered the iTunes Latin Video chart at #1 on its first day. In 2010 Jencarlos was nominated as Best New Artist for the Latin Music Billboard Awards, where he performed his hit “Amor Quedate”
Jencarlos’ popularity as an actor is no less impressive. In 2008 Telemundo chose him to play the teenage lead role in the soap-opera “Pecados Ajenos” interpreting “Alfredo Torres”, where he also sang the theme song for this story. After that, he also had an appearance on another soap-opera called “Dona Barbara.” Jencarlos also played the lead of the musical, “Miami Libre,” which is based on the story of a young Cuban man who goes to Miami with dreams of becoming a well known singer. Last year he was the star of the most highly rated Telemundo primetime network drama ever, Más Sabe El Diablo.
Jencarlos has also starred in two different films. In 2009, he played the lead role in his first film “Hunted by Night,” a story with many special effects. Then in 2010, he starred in the movie “Mas Sabe el Diablo: El Primer Golpe,” which is the introduction to the soap-opera Mas Sabe el Diablo.
Consecutively, in 2009, 2010 and 2011 Jencarlos was chosen by PEOPLE EN ESPAÑOL as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the midst of a major list that contains different figures that have excelled in the world of music, film and television. Not to mention, that in 2009 PEOPLE EN ESPAÑOL, devoted its cover story to him in its edition of The 25 Most Beautiful Men.
In early 2010, Jencarlos makes his debut in the American market with Conan O’Brien’s invitation to participate in his popular Tv show “Tonight Show”, where he performed his song “Amor Quedate” in its bilingual version for the first time.
Always demonstrating that his image goes hand in hand with great causes, this young singer accepted to be the voice of the Department of Families in Puerto Rico for adopting children. He participated in a walk in Puerto Rico against child abuse, bringing together thousands of people for the same cause. Several streets were closed in order to accomplish this great act.
His distinctive voice formed an important part in the song “Somos el Mundo”, the Spanish version of the legendary song “We Are the World” by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson, which was recorded by the producer Emilio Estefan with the plan of raising funds for the earthquake victims in Haiti.
As another example for the youth, in 2010 Jencarlos entered the Hall of Fame of the prestigious Miami Dade College, an institution where this artist graduated from.
Almost finishing 2010, he was invited by the Hispanic Heritage Month to share with other celebrities such as Camila, Alejandro Sanz, and Juan Luis Guerra, in the White House to discuss points in favor of Hispanics with a group of congressmen, where he closed the night singing at the Kennedy Center.
Jencarlos definitely made history by being chosen by one of the most popular cereal brands in the United States, Honey Bunches of Oats, to be the image of a nationwide campaign of “Thinking Positive”. The theme song of the campaign, which he sings, was produced and written by him. His image is on the cover of a cereal box, which is the first American product to promote a box with bilingual text.
Another historical fact accomplished by Jencarlos was indeed the fact that being an exclusive artist from Telemundo, he was awarded for the first time in the history of latin television a Premio Lo Nuestro, from the Univision Network, for Best New Pop Artist.
In 2011 he was also given a Cassandra Award for New Artist of the Year, and in turn was part of the opening performance with El Cata and Pitbull with his song “Baila Baila”, which will be the second single from her production “Un Nuevo Dia.”
Jencarlos was invited to participate in a production of Universal Pictures in Hollywood with the movie Hop, which premiered on April 2011, whose main theme song in the Spanish version of the movie is sung by him.
On June 21, 2011, his new album “Un Nuevo Dia” was released. It was produced by Rudy Perez , and includes duets with artists such as Jose Feliciano, Gilberto Santa Rosa, El Cata, Pitbull, and the band Los Recoditos . This same album includes the single “Mi Corazon Insiste” which is also the name of his current soap opera as well as the theme song of the soap opera, which is sung by him.
Once again surprising the industry, the album “Un Nuevo Dia” debuted as #1 in the charts of sales in the first week of its release. This was accompanied by an autograph-signing tour that broke records, not only in Miami with more than 3,000 people, but also in Puerto Rico, where in four autograph-signing sessions more than 12,000 people attended.
